Resolution

WHEREAS, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, known as HBCUs, have played a historic and continuing role in educating, preparing, and empowering Black students for leadership in civic life, professional service, entrepreneurship, public policy, education, media, culture, and community advancement; and

WHEREAS, HBCU students are not only future leaders, but present-day voices, builders, organizers, creators, researchers, storytellers, and advocates who can help shape the direction of their campuses, communities, institutions, and the broader Black global future; and

WHEREAS, student organizations have a responsibility to encourage leadership development, civic awareness, professional growth, cultural understanding, career preparation, and meaningful engagement with issues affecting Black communities locally, nationally, and globally; and

WHEREAS, the National Historically Black Colleges & Universities Alumni Associations Foundation, known as NHBCUAAF, supports HBCU alumni leadership, student engagement, alumni association development, and the long-term strength of HBCU institutions and communities; and

WHEREAS, GDN Global, also known as Greater Diversity News Global, is building a media, public education, partnership, and civic engagement platform focused on HBCU student pathways, Black economic development, The Economic Liberation of Africa, the AU Sixth Region, RoFR education, and Africa-diaspora engagement; and

WHEREAS, the NHBCUAAF–GDN Global partnership seeks to connect HBCU students, alumni associations, media platforms, mentors, civic leaders, businesses, and community partners into a shared effort to advance student leadership, workforce preparation, public education, and Black global economic participation; and

WHEREAS, HBCU students should have access to internships, mentorship, digital media experience, public policy education, research opportunities, career exploration, entrepreneurship exposure, global awareness, and platforms that allow them to tell stories about HBCUs, Black communities, Africa, and the African diaspora; and

WHEREAS, the African Union’s Sixth Region concept recognizes the African diaspora as part of the broader African world and provides an important framework for students to study and engage Africa-diaspora identity, culture, policy, economic development, and civic participation; and

WHEREAS, the Right of First Refusal, known as RoFR, provides a useful framework for teaching students about structured participation in contracts, procurement, business development, policy, enterprise growth, and economic decision-making affecting African and diaspora communities; and

WHEREAS, student participation in media, research, podcasts, newsletters, campus forums, public education campaigns, interviews, articles, and digital storytelling can help build awareness of HBCU leadership, alumni engagement, the AU Sixth Region, RoFR, and The Economic Liberation of Africa; and

WHEREAS, [Name of Student Organization] recognizes that student voice, student leadership, and student participation are essential to building a stronger bridge between HBCU legacy and Black global economic leadership;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED

BE IT RESOLVED, that [Name of Student Organization] hereby endorses the mission of the NHBCUAAF–GDN Global partnership as a meaningful initiative to expand HBCU student leadership, alumni engagement, workforce pathways, civic education, media visibility, and Black global economic participation; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that [Name of Student Organization] supports efforts to connect HBCU students to internships, mentorship, public education, digital media, policy research, entrepreneurship, student storytelling, and Africa-centered economic engagement; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that [Name of Student Organization] encourages students at [Name of Institution] to learn more about the NHBCUAAF–GDN Global partnership and to explore ways to participate in student leadership, media, research, public education, and community engagement activities connected to the partnership; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that [Name of Student Organization] supports student education around The Economic Liberation of Africa, the AU Sixth Region, RoFR, HBCU alumni leadership, workforce preparation, and the role of young people in shaping the future of Black economic participation; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that [Name of Student Organization] encourages campus stakeholders, including student government, student media, academic departments, career services, alumni chapters, faculty advisors, and student clubs, to consider hosting or supporting one or more of the following activities:

  1. A campus briefing on the NHBCUAAF–GDN Global partnership;
  2. An internship information session for interested students;
  3. A student media or podcast discussion on HBCUs, the AU Sixth Region, RoFR, or The Economic Liberation of Africa;
  4. A student research or writing project connected to Africa-diaspora economic participation;
  5. A mentorship session with alumni, professionals, entrepreneurs, or civic leaders;
  6. A social media or newsletter campaign encouraging students to learn about the partnership;
  7. A student-led forum on how HBCU students can help build Black global leadership; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that [Name of Student Organization] authorizes its name to be listed as a student organization endorser of the NHBCUAAF–GDN Global partnership, subject to any campus, organizational, branding, or communications policies that apply; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that [Name of Student Organization] may provide a quote, statement, logo, photograph, or public message of support for use in GDN Global, NHBCUAAF, or partnership-related communications, subject to approval by the organization’s authorized student representative and faculty or campus advisor, if required; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution shall be transmitted to the appropriate representatives of the NHBCUAAF–GDN Global partnership and may be shared with students, alumni, campus leaders, faculty advisors, community partners, and other organizations as evidence of [Name of Student Organization]’s support.
